Heidi Züger: “A serious matter”
Dramatised reading
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Stehli silk weaving mill in Obfelden was one of Switzerland’s highest-turnover companies. In addition to the factory in Obfelden, ‘Stehli & Co.’ operated a total of eight silk production sites, including in Oberarth, Italy and the USA.
The author Maria Ulrich (1894–1967) worked in the Stehli factories in Oberarth and Obfelden and is regarded as the literary voice of the Swiss silk industry. In her dramatised reading, actress Heidi Züger transports us to an exciting and largely unknown era: in Ulrich’s work *Der Heimweg* (*The Way Home*), a modern self-made woman navigates her way between unrequited love, a passion for silk and the complex art of silk production. Maria Ulrich – an astonishing life woven from silk threads.
